Should I be authentic, or should I play a role? – Authenticity in the role!
This is a question that both actors and businesspeople have to contend with. I have been grappling with it myself for over 35 years. Even as a drama school student I felt it was one of the key issues in terms of enhancing one’s impact.
Authenticity is very important. But what exactly does it mean for leaders? To what extent can and should they allow their personality to permeate their professional role?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. But I can assure you that we will find practical solutions to help you increase the overlap between your personality and your role, and thereby enhance your charisma. In my experience, people often have a lot of untapped potential in this area.
I am motivated by client feedback like this:
»I would never have thought my personal life could have such a big impact on my effectiveness as a regional manager.«
»Thank you. You really helped me to become a successful chairman of the board. I would never have managed to move from my role as CFO to my new role otherwise.«
Charisma comes from the inside. Get clarity on what you really stand for in your current position. To this end, we’ll put our heads together to develop your own personal Inspirational Leader Guideline. Next, we’ll use a so-called embodiment process to anchor this clearly conceived and deeply-felt role model within your body, after which you’ll personify your management role in the truest sense of the word.
My method will help you to acquire a professional presence. Expand your repertoire of authentic self-expression and fill the room with your personal presence. Enhance the impact you make on others by applying a number of simple techniques employed by actors to hone your body language and diction, in the course of which, people often discover unexpected talents.
Address people as equals in presentations, meetings and in the course of your day-to-day management tasks. Develop an effective vocabulary for the entire leadership spectrum from participative to directive management. Optimise your powers of reasoning both in terms of exercising formal authority and in lateral management contexts.
You’ll master the challenge of communicating both empathetically and clearly at the same time. You’ll develop an aptitude for empathetic, candid relationships. You’ll use empathic communication methods to become a role model, promote a positive corporate culture and motivate those around you. This skill is also extremely useful in conflict situations.
Fullfil your true potential. Exploit the power of your inner values and motivation. Discover your personal strengths and how you appear to others, whilst recognising and acknowledging your weaker points. Successful leadership is rooted in a realistic self-image, as the person we need to manage first and foremost is always ourselves!
